Expectant

Parallel Circut and 8Cube
1 August – 5 September 2025

The works selected for this exhibition are from the subway series. In this series, I create paintings using drawings and photos I have taken in the subway. For years I have been drawing people who use public transportation. It is due to my interest in capturing everyday life. The time spent in subways is the time for waiting. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the subway, there is nothing to do but wait to reach the destination. And it is repeated every day when people go from work to home and vice versa. The wait to reach the destination is simultaneously a hope for the breakdown of this cycle of repetition. When the chronological time breaks down, it’s time for chaos.

Parallel Circuit, in collaboration with 8CUBE, is pleased to announce “EXPECTANT”, a group exhibition selected by Bita Fayyazi. This artistic event will be on view at 8CUBE from August 1 to September 12, 2025.

“Waiting is an active terrain where desires are negotiated, futures imagined, and identities forged,” says Bita Fayyazi, who developed and assembled “EXPECTANT”. This exhibition “delves into the quiet, often overlooked domain where time lingers; where suspense and stillness shape our inner self.” Covering sculpture, painting, drawing, and photography, “EXPECTANT” brings together different materials and sensibilities to give shape to something deeply subjective and not readily tangible. Across these works, we see how time lingers, stretches, freezes, or moves in unexpected ways; how it carries weight, or sometimes floats.

“EXPECTANT” centers around the concepts of “waiting” and “anticipation”. The exhibition includes a wide range of pieces by established artists, emerging artists, and newcomers, including: Sasan Abri, Ahang Ahmadi, Sogol Azarshab, Peyman Barabadi, Mozhgan Bavaki, Ashkan Behjou, Raana Dehghan, Farbod Elkaei, Nargess Farahani, Nariman Farrokhi, Fariba, Sarah Gerami, Aisan Ghanbari, Shokoofeh Khorramroodi, Mona Kalahroudi, Afsaneh Modiramani, Haleh Motevalli, Milad Mousavi, Pouya Parsa Magham, Parham Pirooz, Afshin Sa’dipoor, Mohsen Shahmardi, Masoud Soheili Nezhad, Arya Tabandehpoor, The Treeo, Mehdi Vazirpour, Sepideh Zamani, and Hoda Zareei.

A daring artist herself, Bita Fayyazi’s projects are collaborative by nature; as such, she often finds herself in the position of bringing the energies of the group towards “an uncertain  outcome”.
